Studio E Silent Sports Bike Physics Dark Navy

Silent Sports Bike Physics Dark Navy
Studio E Silent Sports Bike Physics Dark Navy

Fabric Name- Silent Sports Bike Physics Dark Navy designed by Judy Gauthier for Studio E.

Material- 100% Cotton Fabric

Background Color- Navy Blue

Theme- Science

Description:

Bike Physics is part of the Silent Sports collection by Judy Gauthier for Studio E. There are gears and bicycles scattered throughout the design, along with the physics of air drag and how a bicycle works.

The picture of the white bicycle describes the different parts of the bike in terms of physics: The handlebar levers make the front wheel easier to turn. The friction brakes turn energy into heat. The frame divides the rider’s weight between the wheels. Large wheels multiply pedaling speed. Gears linked by a chain increase speed or pedaling force. The pedal cranks increase pedaling force. The spokes share the rider’s weight evenly on the tires.

The graph with many sloping lines illustrates how a rider’s position on a bicycle changes speed relative to the same horse power. Sitting straight up on a bike increases your frontal area, which increases air drag and slows you down relative to pedaling at the same power while leaning over the handle bars. Less air drag equals higher velocity given the same power.

The pattern also has calculations for overcoming air drag (resistance) in still air or in a headwind, and a diagram of the center of mass of a rider on a bicycle.

This is a great design for people who love bicycle racing and physics. Science is fun!
